Nashville State School of Arts & Humanities Hosts Renowned Artist Alan LeQuire
Professors John Knox and Scott McRoberts are excited to announce that celebrated sculptor and Nashville resident Alan LeQuire will be visiting Nashville State’s White Bridge campus on March 4 for a lecture and reception.
LeQuire is also showcasing two of his exhibits in the Art Gallery located in the Health Sciences (H) Building.
The lecture, reception, and exhibits are free and open to the public.
LeQuire is best known for creating Athena Parthenos, the largest indoor sculpture in the Western Hemisphere, and Musica, one of the largest figure groups in the world. Both of these monumental works are located in Nashville, Tennessee.
Alan and his team have partnered with Nashville State for years, welcoming students as they observe works in the gallery and studio, gathering information for assignments. This time the lesson has been taken to Nashville State.
“We are grateful for the invitation to exhibit with Nashville State, which reinforces one of LeQuire’s long-term missions: the “continuum of knowledge.” Throughout his career LeQuire has mentored many young artists, offered apprenticeships and overseen decades of “open studio” sessions,” said LeQuire Gallery Director Elizabeth Cave.

LeQuire are placed randomly around the room allowing viewers to learn more without
a docent. Two armatures are included, as well as maquettes of LeQuire’s portraits
of Jack Daniel (Lynchburg, TN) and Timothy Demonbreun (Riverfront Park, Nashville).
Exhibit: Dream Forest
Through August 5
Alan LeQuire’s Dream Forest includes 12-ft tall interpretive human torsos, assembled
together, with tree-like stature. The sculptures are an exploration of form, as well
as an ode to the disappearing old growth forests.
